About Me

I started a PhD in nuclear structure theory in 2006 after obtaining both my undergraduate degree and an MSc in Radiation and Environmental Protection from the University of Surrey.

I work under the supervision of Paul Stevenson and Jeff Tostevin on the development of mean-field models for calculations of the ground-state properties of atomic nuclei. One of my current interests is the role of the tensor force as a part of the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction within the Skyrme Hartree-Fock model for both spherical and deformed systems.

A list of publications can be found here.

Contained below are various presentations, reports and notes relating to some of the things I have worked on since October 2006:

BA09 - A talk I gave at the British Science Festival and some notes that go with it.

Cheltenham09 - Report on my experience at the Cheltenham Science Festival.

IOP09 Talk - 'The role of the tensor force within the Skyrme Hartree-Fock model for deformed systems', and abstract for the IOP Nuclear Physics conference in Birmingham.

Transfer Report - 'The Development of Mean-Field Models for Nuclear Structure Calculations'.

50th Symposium Talk - 'The effect of the tensor force on the predictions for superheavy nuclei', with accompanying abstract for the 50th Anniversary Symposium on Nuclear Shapes and Sizes in Guildford.

UWS08 Poster - 'The effect of the tensor force on the predicted shell closures in superheavy nuclei', with accompanying abstract and 5 minute talk for the Nuclear Structure at the Extremes conference in Paisley.

IOP08 Poster - 'Projected mean fields for isotope shifts', and accompanying abstract for the IOP Nuclear Physics conference in Liverpool.

First Year Report - A report outlining some of the theoretical techniques used to study rotations in nuclei.

Original Project Outline - A talk given at the IOP summer school in August 2007 and also to new PhD students at Surrey in October 2007.

I am also responsible for organising the bull session schedule for the nuclear physics group, which can be found here.
